Lynn Blewett, HPM Professor and SHADAC Director, presented “Health Insurance Exchange,” at the Policy not Politics: A Dialogue about the Health Insurance Exchange event hosted by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society on Feb. 7, 2012.

The event included an update from Minnesota’s Exchange Task Force and a panel discussion from the consumer, small business, and provider perspectives

Visiting Professor Herng-Chia Chiu will join HPM from February-September 2012 while he works on his Fulbright Scholar project, “Performance Evaluation of the Hospital Accreditation System from the Perspective of Stakeholders: Comparison Between the United States and Taiwan.” Dr. Chiu is a Professor at Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan and editor of the Taiwan Journal of Healthcare Management. He has served as chief operating officer at Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital. Dr. Chiu’s interests include aging and healthcare utilization. HPM Professor Jim Begun is his faculty host.

Ira Moscovice, Mayo Professor and Division Head, and Director, Upper Midwest Rural Health Research Center (RHRC), and Michelle Casey, Deputy Director, RHRC, conducted research on trends in rural hospitals’ use of hospitalists including the characteristics of the hospitals, the types of hospital models being used, and the impact of hospitalist use on the provision of care in rural areas.
