(Aug. 5, 2009) — University of Minnesota School of Public Health Professor Mary Story will receive the Medallion Award from the American Dietetic Association (ADA) in recognition of her outstanding service and leadership to ADA and the dietetics profession. Story, an internationally renowned expert in child and adolescent obesity prevention, will receive the award in October at the American Dietetic Association's Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo in Denver.
Story directs the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Healthy Eating Research program, a multi-million dollar program that funds research to prevent childhood obesity. She is a member of the prestigious Academy for Excellence in Health Research at the University. In addition to her position at the School of Public Health, Story is an adjunct professor in the department of pediatrics in the Medical School.
“We are privileged to have Dr. Story as a member of our faculty and congratulate her on this richly deserved honor,” said John R. Finnegan, Jr., dean of the School of Public Health. “She is a leading voice in the field of obesity prevention, one of the most significant public health issues facing our nation today.”
The ADA’s Medallion Awards, given each year since 1976, honor individuals who have shown dedication to the high standards of the dietetics profession through active participation, leadership and devotion to serving others in dietetics and allied health fields.
