Attention Environmental Health Students: Are you interested in visiting the
State Fair for free? The Dean's Office is looking for two EnHS students who would be willing to help with a demo. These volunteers will talk to fairgoers about protective gear and help people try on gloves that are part of a HazMat suit. This is only a three-hour commitment on Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m. to noon, and includes admission to the fair and a free T-shirt. If interested, please contact Anne-Marie Kruse at kruse109@umn.edu or 6-9303.

SPH Orientation and Warm-Up sessions are just around the corner. Students can choose which events you would like to attend. Please remember that you must attend the SPH School-wide Orientation as well as your Major Orientation on Aug. 23 (more info on that below). Each additional event will give you a great opportunity to meet more of your classmates and learn valuable information about the school.

WANTED: Public Health Students. Need extra spending money? The U of M Usability Services Team is looking for students from the SPH to try out the usability of various University Web page designs in the summer and during Fall Semester. No Web experience necessary. Typically evaluation sessions last 60–90 minutes. Days vary. On-campus evaluation appointments will be available over the next several months. Send an email with your name and phone number to WEB-USABILITY@LISTS.UMN.EDU and mention this announcement. $35 cash for most participant categories -- plus free snacks!

The Pasteur Foundation is happy to announce two calls for applicants for postdoc and undergrad programs for American scientists to work at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France.Please note the respective deadlines ofSept. 7 and Dec. 14.

Consumer/ Self-care Informatics: This 8-week online course for 1-2 credits focuses on consumer management of health information. It covers consumer preferences for information and use, including personal health records, and Internet-based strategies to support consumers' management of their health. The reversal of consumer-provider relationships and other implications will be explored. An optional second credit practicum with hands on experience in a health care setting is available. The National Maternal Nutrition Intensive Course offers online video streaming over the Internet to allow distance learners an opportunity to view sessions of the course. The streaming video sessions will be 8-9 hours and will include:

Minnesota Public Health Association's Centennial Celebration Gala -
Join the MPHA as it celebrates 100 years as a contributor to the health of Minnesotans. Will Steger, polar explorer, will be the keynote speaker. Oct. 25, 5:30 - 9 p.m. at McNamara Alumni Center. More information and registration information will be posted to www.mpha.net in September.
