Community Engagement

Students are immersed in the community through an Applied Practice (AP) experience which provides students the opportunity to engage in hands-on community health work in partnership with a preceptor, at a site chosen by each student to match their interests and training goals.

Recent AP experiences for Community Health Promotion students include:

  1. Hennepin County Medical Center: Develop a group counseling intervention for patients (kidney transplant candidates) and their social support networks for use in the clinical practice setting, and piloting this intervention at 2 transplant centers in Minneapolis.
  2. Minnesota Department of Education: Conduct research on building comprehensive school climates in Minnesota.
  3. Project HEAL Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter: Adapt a social media literacy curriculum aimed at middle school aged children in hopes of reducing eating disorders in adolescents in Minneapolis.
