Welcome

Welcome from the SPH!

Welcome 'U' news is an attempt to get you ready for your time at the UMN SPH. Pay attention - this is important.

Mentor Program

group of squirrelsTake advantage of the SPH Mentor Program this fall. The UMN SPH is home to the largest mentor program of any other school of public health and is open to all students regardless of major or location.

You will be matched with a mentor of similar interests. The program will provide networking opportunities with a variety of public health professionals. Enjoy newsletters and special events among other things. Hit the ground running as you start your exciting journey at the University of Minnesota's School of Public Health.

Application deadline is September 17, 2009.

Immunization Requirements

If you haven't completed them by November, you won't be able to register for spring 2010. Not cool.

There are seven in all. You shouldn't bruise; you probably already have some of them. The Hepatitis B has two steps and takes four to six months to complete. International students, you have some additional items to complete so be sure to scroll all the way down!group of squirrels

Get going!

All SPH certificate students, with the exception of international students, are exempt from the AHC requirements. International certificate students are not exempt from the international student immunization requirements.

Contact Information

If you move this summer, please update your address information via the One Stop website. Use the “Personal Information” quick link on the right.

Field Experiences

Field experiences, internships, clerkships, residencies (they come in many flavors) offer most degree-seeking students an opportunity to learn first-hand about the organization, operations, and special activities of agencies, institutions, and industries.

This summer ten SPH students are blogging during their field experiences in Tanzania, China, Switzerland, Uganda, Kenya, Haiti, and Japan.

Equivalency Exams

Equivalency exam dates have been scheduled for the public health core courses.

Please check with your coordinator before taking the exam to confirm that your degree program accepts the exam(s).

Happenings

Movies and music in the park. The Walker Art Center, located just south of downtown Minneapolis and home of the famous Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture, sponsors four Monday evenings this summer of Paul Newman movies and music in nearby Loring Park! The events are free.

Speaking of free, the Walker offers free admission every Thursday evening.
