Financial Aid

Most SPH students are eligible for federal financial aid.  At the graduate level this aid usually comes in the form of federal loans.  Students must be enrolled for at least four credits per term (three credits during the summer) to be eligible.

Applying

To apply for financial aid, the student must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Use the University of Minnesota’s school code, 003969, to have your FAFSA information sent to us.

Information about the financial aid application process including deadlines and eligibility can be found via the One Stop website.

Contact Rockne Bergman (r-berg@umn.edu), the financial aid officer for the School of Public Health, with questions.

Already Applied

If you have already submitted your FAFSA, we expect your financial aid award notice (FAAN) to be available in mid-July. The Office of Student Finance will send an e-mail to your University e-mail account notifying you to go online to "Financial Aid Status." where you will see the option "Respond to my Financial Aid Award Notice (FAAN)" when it is time to accept, reduce, or decline your financial aid award offers.

If you do not receive an e-mail within six weeks of submitting your FAFSA and you have responded to all requests for more information, please contact One Stop Student Services at 612-624-1111 or e-mail helpingu@umn.edu.

This financial aid timeline is based on final approval by the Board of Regents of the University budget. We understand that you may need to plan your financial situation before you receive the package. To receive as estimate of your financial aid package prior to the official announcement, please contact Rockne Bergman in the Office of Student Finance at r-berg@umn.edu. Please include your student ID number in the message.
