Student SPHere Lounge

About the SPHere Lounge

The SPHere is the lounge for graduate School of Public Health students only. It is located on the 1st floor of the Mayo Memorial Building, room A150. To access it, students need to scan their ID by the main entrance of the lounge. For your convenience, the SPHere offers several different resources and services:

  • Kitchen. The kitchen includes a sink, fridge, microwave, and dining tables where SPH students can keep and eat their food during the day.
  • Lockers. Student can use a locker throughout the school year. There is no fee for their usage, but each student has to provide a lock. There is a mandated online contract to register for a locker. For more info, please contact Student Services at 612-626-3500 or at sph-oasr@umn.edu.
  • The SPH Senate Office. Located inside the SPHere.
  • Computer Lab. The lab has 14 PCs with the full Microsoft Office suite and a variety of statistical software. Printing and scanning is also available. Each student is given $100 credit for print outs (black and white) for the school year. The printer is connected to the lab-computers, but students can also install the printer driver (internet connection is required) so they can print directly from their laptop. Access and Appropriate Use of the SPHere

Access to the SPHere begins on the first day of school fall semester and continues through spring semester. For printer and SPHere access problems, please contact SPH IT, Andy Nguyen @x61998 and/or Student Services @x63500.

The SPHere is a good study-space option for students; however, silence is not mandatory. The SPHere is a great place to have group meetings and casually socialize with other fellow classmates. For all issues regarding the SPHere (kitchen, lockers, printer), please contact the Student Services office at 612-626-3500 or sph-oasr@umn.edu.

Installing the Printer Driver on Your Laptop

Instructions for downloading printer drivers in the SPHere from a laptop for PCs

  • Download the file below. It works for either Windows 32 bits system and a 64 bits system:
    http://pharos1.oit.umn.edu/uniprint/SPHMayo151WinLaptops_for_W2K.exe
  • Open and run the installer.
  • When you see the line “Install finished successfully,” click Finish.
  • Go to the SPHere and print a test page. The interface should be the same as with the SPHere computers.

Instructions for downloading printer drivers in the SPHere from a laptop for Macs

We currently have support for OSC Intel 10.6. If you are uncertain about which OSX your Mac is running, go to the Apple icon in the upper left and click on “About this Mac.”  
 

  • After you download and install the file, it will ask you to restart your computer.
  • Go to the SPHere and print a test page. The interface should be the same as with the SPHere computers.
