Continuing Education
When it comes to public health, education does not end when you get your diploma. New diseases emerge, old ones recur, and the latest research findings often put a new spin on old thinking. It is easy to understand why learning lasts a lifetime for practicing public health professionals.
That is why continuing education is such an integral part of our mission at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Providing opportunities for working professionals to cultivate new educational insights is a crucial component of keeping the public health workforce prepared for future health challenges in our region and beyond.
Our continuing professional education initiatives cover everything from hazardous waste clean-up to office ergonomics to occupational health nursing. They include:
- The Public Health Practice Program, which offers degrees and certificate programs for practicing health and human service professionals
- The annual spring Public Health Institute, a three-week event with courses, keynote speeches, laboratory sessions, and field-trips in areas such as infectious disease prevention and control, public health preparedness, food safety, and public health leadership
- One-time refresher courses
- Ongoing roundtables to gain academic and practical perspectives on pressing public health issues
- Online courses for certificate or degree programs
- Open enrollment classes
- Contract courses sponsored by employers
- Day-long seminars
- Symposia
