Curriculum

Public Health Certificate in Preparedness, Response & Recovery

The Public Health Certificate in Preparedness, Response & Recovery (PHCert-PRR), a program in the Public Health Practice Major, will be awarded upon successful completion of a minimum of 12 credits. Most students complete the curriculum by attending at least two Public Health Institutes, held in May/June of each year (some courses may be available online or during the academic year). Students must take all of the following:

PubH 7200  Incident Management System: The Public Health Role (1)*
PubH 7200 Pandemic Influenza Planning: Key Issues in Preparedness for the Next Pandemic (0.5)*
PubH 7221  Planning for Urgent Threats (1)*
PubH 7214  Principles of Risk Communication (1)
PubH 7225 Communication and Information Technology Tools for Public Health Preparedness (1)
PubH 7226  Media Relations Practicum: Mass Media Coverage of Risk (1)

Students must take at least one course from each of the following groups:

PubH 7217 Advances in Molecular Epidemiological Analysis (1) OR
PubH 6103 Exposure to Environmental Hazards (2) offered online OR
PubH 7231 Surveillance of Foodborne Pathogens in Humans (1) OR
PubH 7230  Topics in Infectious Diseases: E.Coli (1) OR
PubH 7230  Topic in Infectious Disease: Malaria (1) (or other infectious disease course)

PubH 7200-112  Politics of Policy: Turning Good Ideas into Better Health (1) OR
PubH 6711  Public Health Law (2)

PubH 7200-108  Mass Fatalities Response: When a Nightmare Comes True (0.5) OR
PubH 7220  Personal Protective Equipment and Respiratory Protection (1)

*course will be offered at the 2009 Public Health Institute
