Public Health Practice Major

Welcome! Thank you for your inquiry into the Executive Program in Public Health Practice! We value your interest and will do everything possible to help determine whether this program will meet your educational interests and professional aspirations.

This program is designed for working professionals who wish to expand their knowledge in public health and apply the knowledge to their current practice.

Who should apply to this program?

If you have an advanced academic degree and would like to pursue a Master of Public Health degree focusing on a specialty area that meets your professional interests, this program is for you. Currently the disciplines of medicine, veterinary science, pharmacy, and psychology are represented in the 70 member class. If you have a Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., M.S., M.B.A., and/or another professional degree, your application is welcome.

What is unique about the Executive Program in Public Health Practice?

First, the program is tailored to your academic priorities.

EPHP is a flexible curriculum that students may tailor to their career and practice.
Established focus areas are:

  • Food safety/biosecurity;
  • Preparedness, response, and recovery;
  • Cultural competency; and
  • Public health leadership.

Each area has suggested coursework and study options. Students with other interests may propose a focus area not listed.

Second, this is a flexible program.

The program builds on your work and educational experience. It is possible to complete all work for your Master of Public Health degree in 16 months, with 42 graduate credits.

Third, this is a program where you will be able to meet new colleagues.

The colleagues and friends you meet here will likely be with you for life.

Overall, we believe that this program will prepare you for major leadership positions which will fully utilize your talents, skills, and public health values.

How often do I need to be on campus?

Approximately 15 credits of the program (out of a total of 42) can be taken online, including course work in biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, and management. Plus, we offer a wide variety of courses during a concentrated three-week Public Health Institute offered every spring. Attendance at two Public Health Institutes and participation in the online classes allows students to continue their current practice while earning the credits necessary for an MPH degree.
