Why the University of Minnesota?
Excellence
Minnesota's Division of Health Policy and Management is among the best programs of its kind in the country. The Master of Science in Health Services Research, Policy and Administration (MS-HSRP&A) reflects an unusual synergy between health services research and health policy research and an exceptionally strong commitment to preparing health professionals for leadership positions in the health services area.
Students in the MS-HSRP&A program work with faculty members who have distinguished track records in teaching, research, and outreach. The rigor, integrity, and significance of the division's work is clear in its impressive annual tallies of faculty publications and its exceptional strength in landing research and evaluation grants from leading government agencies and private and public organizations and foundations.
Opportunity
MS-HSRP&A students have unusually rich learning opportunities at Minnesota. Faculty members involve students significantly in ongoing research and outreach activities and serve as highly engaged advisors and mentors for students¿ own research projects.
Students also benefit from the program's strong ties to the health care, public policy, and business communities in the Twin Cities, long among the country's most fertile settings for health services and policy innovation. Many of these organizations accept MS-HSRP&A students in paid internships where students obtain hands-on experience, and receive a salary and financial assistance toward their tuition and health insurance.
Community
The MS-HSRP&A program at Minnesota is a vibrant learning community of small classes, congenial colleagues, and unusually close interaction between students and faculty. In addition to ongoing interaction in classrooms, advisors' offices, and on research projects, MS-HSRP&A students and faculty get together for intellectual and social activities including well-attended quarterly luncheons to exchange information and discuss curricular and other issues.
Students also benefit from a professionally staffed Student Services Center in the School of Public Health; from the highly individualized assistance of the MS-HSRP&A program coordinator for assistance with registration, financial aid, and other administrative concerns; and from a Career Center that sponsors a variety of activities to help students plan their futures and make connections with prospective employers.
