Kisha Hortman 2001 MHA

ADMINISTRATOR, PATIENT MANAGEMENT SERVICES
MEMORIAL HEALTH SYSTEM
SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS

Kisha Hortman 2001 MHAFamily atmosphere and a record of minority student success attracted Kisha Hortman to Minnesota. Her instincts were correct. "Everyone rallies around you to make sure that you complete the program successfully."

A pre-program orientation made Kisha feel welcome. When the semester began, she was paired with a second-year student to help her adjust to new challenges.

In a business plan project for Medtronic, Kisha contributed to a crossfunctional team of PhDs, MBAs, MHAs, research specialists and engineers. The project provided insight into the reality of the industry and helped her master problem- solving and team-building skills.

Kisha also created an active social life in the Twin Cities’ African American community. She joined the Black MBA Association and the graduate chapter of a sorority, where she met African American students from other professional programs. "Twin Cities corporations recruit from all the historically black universities," she said. "There’s a good culture for young black professionals."
