ISP/MHA Option Timeline
Events Leading to the MHA via ISP
Students who are accepted into the Master's option can complete the requirements for the Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree in a little less than three years, although more time is available if needed.
Each year of ISP is called a "course." Students begin each course with two weeks on campus in the summer. During the year, students complete monthly "units" of study and submit written assignments to unit faculty. Students in the first and second year meet monthly in local preceptor groups and make an oral presentation in each of the two annual Regional meetings.
During the third year, which is called Course 3, students study four external forces (units of study) that impact healthcare delivery and submit written assignments to Course 3 faculty.
In addition to the external forces, Course 3 students are required to complete a research project at the level of a Master's thesis. They chose a problem, develop a research proposal and present it to the faculty and peers during one weekend on campus in December. Once approved, students complete the project, write a report, and present it on campus at the June Symposium at the end of the third year.
Students who have been accepted into the Master's Option take three additional courses for a total of six semester graduate credits on campus during the three weeks following the June Symposium. They must have completed all requirements for the Credential of Advanced Studies from ISP before they begin these courses. This includes an approved course in statistics before the start of Course 3, and an approved graduate level course in research before the completion of Course 3. The Course 3 research project and defense satisfies the requirements for a Master's thesis.
Upon successful completion of all requirements for the Master's option, they are awarded the Master of Healthcare Administration degree.
