Graduate Credit for Non-Degree Students
Use the process below to register for a public health course for graduate credit if you meet both of the following conditions:
- You are not enrolled currently in a University of Minnesota degree or certificate program.
- You want to receive graduate credit.
Choose a course
View the Class Schedule on the One Stop website. Select the term, e.g. fall 2009, and "public health" as the subject. Each course will list details regarding time, location, dates, and instructor.
View the pre-requisites
Some courses may list pre-requisites. Be sure that you meet them. If you are not sure, contact the instructor to ensure that it is a suitable match.
Get a permission number
As a non degree-seeking/non-admitted student, you will need a permission number to enroll in a course. The Class Schedule may list a specific person to contact for a permission number. If it does not, click on the instructor's name and you will be provided with his/her contact information.
Complete the registration form
Parts one, two, and four must be completed by the student. All of the information requested on part 2 of the form is available from the Class Schedule with the exception of the permission number. You must provide this information before submitting the form.
- Course Subject, number, and section, e.g. PubH, 6020, 003
- Five-digit class number (shown directly to the left of each section in maroon letters)
- Grading Basis - courses may be taken for a letter grade (A-F) or pass/fail (S/N). Note that if you plan to transfer the course in to a graduate program, it is advisable to take the course for a letter grade. If the Class Schedule says "A-F" only or S/N only, it means the course may only be taken for a letter grade or only pass/fail.

Undergraduate credit
If you have no intention of matriculating in a graduate-level degree or certificate program and applying these credits to your study plan, you may register for some public health courses for undergraduate credit. This will reduce the amount of the tuition you pay for the course. Courses taken for undergraduate credit are not transferable to a graduate-level program.
We hope you enjoy the course!
