Veterinary Public Health Program

Leading to dual Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Public Health (D.V.M./M.P.H.) degrees

The Veterinary Public Health (VPH) program allows students to combine their veterinary studies with a public health degree, giving them the credentials to work at the interface of human wellness and animal health, spanning agriculture and food industry concerns, emerging infectious diseases, and other public health issues.

•  The program is designed, so you can earn a M.P.H. degree in the same four years as your D.V.M. degree.
• Approximately 15 credits of the program (out of a total of 42) can be taken online. Students take online courses during the summer terms between the D.V.M. curriculums and attend a concentrated three-week Public Health Institute (PHI) offered every spring. The PHI provides students the unique opportunity to interact with professionals from multiple disciplines.
• The program allows up to 14 credits of graduate or D.V.M. credits to transfer toward the M.P.H.
• You can purse a D.V.M. at any accredited veterinary college, while pursuing the M.P.H. at the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health.
• Students are completing their M.P.H. in an average of three years!
