“The Promise and Pitfalls of Social Impact Bonds in Addressing Population Health Disparities”
Paula Lantz, PhD
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor
Ford School of Public Policy
University of Michigan
Abstract: Social impact bonds, otherwise known as “Pay for Success,” is a financing model that brings private sector capital to public problems, with the governmental repaying private investors if success metrics are achieved. To date, 16 such projects in the U.S. and 66 others worldwide have been launched. In this seminar, Lantz will discuss some of her research regarding the potential and challenges of this public/private partnership model in improving population health and reducing health disparities.
