SPH Educational Policy Committee Minutes, Dec. 12, 2011

Agenda
The December 12, 2001 EPC agenda was approved.

Minutes
The November 2011 EPC minutes were approved with one addition.  Under the section titled EPC Updatesit should read, “Craig announced that the Certificate in Applied Biostatistics and the Certificate and MPH in Public Health Informatics were approved.”

EPC Updates
Craig Hedberg announced that EPC approved the new  CHE name change.  The proposed title, Community Health Promotion, will be forwarded to the Regents for approval.

Admissions Committee membership policy
Mary Ellen and Carol asked for discussion about staff members serving as voting members on admission committees. After reviewing the SPH policy, EPC concluded that staff members could serve as voting members on admission committees.

Review Process for SPH Concentrations
Prof Lando suggested that EPC regularly review the SPH interdisciplinary concentrations.  EPC agreed with the suggestion.  Mary Ellen and Craig will draft a process for EPC to consider at the February Meeting.

Undergraduate syllabus template
Carol Francis distributed an example of an undergraduate PUBH syllabus.  It contained information on email, Moodle access, etc.  EPC asked that this syllabus be posted on the Faculty Resource webpage.

Reports from Course Reviewers
6350 – Russ and Betsy served as reviewers
6365 – Pam and Donna served as reviewers
7415- waiting for reviewers’ feedback

Reviewers’ feedback will be shared with the course faculty members, summarized, and distributed along with a ballot to EPC members, as soon the information is available.

Advanced Management Training for Clinical Leaders
Dan Zismer distributed a draft of a proposal for a Regent’s Certificate.  The certificate focuses on clinical leaders in integrated health systems and will provide advanced training in key aspects of strategic leadership, and management of health systems.

Graduate Education Council
Betsy Wattenberg informed EPC of the new structure for the Council.  Betsy indicated that she has a strong interest in serving on the council.  All tenure track faculty members should have received a ballot and are encouraged to cast their vote(s).

Betsy also informed the group that the School has received 7 Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship nomination slots.  More information will be sent to the PhD Program Directors and Coordinators in January.
