The School of Public Health division with the highest percentage of participation will win the division prize — a Breakfast with Dean Finnegan and Division Head of the winning division.

Students can earn participation points by:

  • Volunteering at Research Day and the NPHW Film Festival 
  • Participate in Research Day and/or the NPHW Film Festival committee 
  • Attend Research Day and/or the NPHW Film Festival

Volunteering Opportunities

Please review the list of volunteer opportunities below and see if any jobs will work with your schedule. Email Nichole Axtmanmart1047@umn.edu, if you are interested in volunteering and list out the volunteer shifts you would like to work at the Film Festival and/or Research Day by March 29:

Hang up festival posters around campus/community. Volunteer time varies.

  • Unlimited amount of volunteers needed.
  • Student must hang up at least 10 posters around the campus and/or community.
  • All posters must be hung no later than March 28.

Hand out festival fliers to friends, classmates, etc. Volunteer time varies.

  • Unlimited amount of volunteers needed.
  • Students must commit to handing out at least 15 fliers.
  • All fliers must be handed out no later than April 4.

Announce the festival via Facebook and/or Twitter. Volunteer time varies.

  • Unlimited amount of volunteers needed.
  • Students can select to promote the entire festival (Apr. 4-8) or select days depending on interest:

Monday (Mental Health)
Tuesday (Food)
Wednesday (Social Justice/Health Care)
Thursday (Climate Change)
Friday (HIV/Sexual Health)
Week-Long

Chalk University sidewalks to promote festival. Volunteer time varies.

  • Unlimited amount of volunteers needed.
  • Unleash your creativity and chalk on University sidewalks nearby the Mayo Memorial Building promoting the festival.
  • Chalk will be provided.
  • Chalking must occur anytime between Saturday, Apr. 2- Monday, Apr. 4.

Film Festival Week-of Specific Volunteer Opportunities (Apr. 4-8):

Greeters. Volunteer time is 4:45-5:30 p.m. nightly.

  • 2 students per night.
  • Greet guests.
  • Hand out surveys.
  • Students can choose what day(s) he/she would like to volunteer.

Guardians of the Refreshments. Volunteer time is 4:45-5:45 p.m. nightly.

  • 2 students per night.
  • Pop popcorn.
  • Replenish refreshment table with food, beverages, and supplies.
  • Students can choose what day(s) he/she would like to volunteer.

Photographer. Volunteer time is 4:45-6 p.m. nightly.

  • 1 student per night.
  • Take candids and poised photos of guests in lobby.
  • Take photos during welcome and introduction from 5:30-6 p.m.
  • Camera is provided.
  • Student can choose what day(s) he/she would like to volunteer.

Clean-Up after Film Festival. Volunteer time is post-film nightly.

  • 1 student per night.
  • Wipe down refreshment area.
  • Wipe down tables.
  • Clean up lobby.
  • Total time is approximately 15-30 minutes (usually between 7-8 p.m.).
  • Student can choose what day(s) he/she would like to volunteer.

Research Day (April 4)

Hand out event flier to friends, classmates, etc. Volunteer time varies.

  • Unlimited amount of volunteers needed.
  • Students must commit to handing out at least 15 fliers.
  • All fliers must be handed out no later than April 1.

Announce Research Day in your class. Volunteer time varies.

  • Unlimited amount of volunteers needed.
  • Please ask your professor before making the announcement if it’s okay.
  • Encourage your classmates to attend Research Day, Apr. 4, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Greeter. Volunteer time is for 30 minutes during Research Day, Apr. 4 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

  • 1 person per 30 minute shift;

10-10:30 a.m.
10:30-11 a.m.
11-11:30 a.m.
11:30-12 p.m.
12-12:30 p.m.
12:30-1 p.m.

  • Welcome guests.
  • Hand out programs.
  • Student can choose what shifts he/she would like to volunteer.

Division Prize

The winning division will receive an Award Day, Thursday, April 28, 7 a.m. — 10:30 a.m. Prizes will consist of: FREE Breakfast, Raffle Prizes, and more. Dean Finnegan and theDivision Head of the winning division will be attending the event.

  • Three students will receive the opportunity to have lunch with Dean Finnegan!
    • Lunch will be at a later date. Winners will be given contact information for scheduling.
