It's Global. Public Health Film Contest

Call for Entries: Worldwide Public Health Film Competition

(Feb. 21, 2007) -- The University of Minnesota School of Public Health is calling for entries into its "It’s Global" filmmaking competition that will be part of the events associated with the National Public Health Week Film Festival to be held in Minneapolis, Minn., April 2-6, 2007.

Film contest officials hope to attract talented emerging and seasoned filmmakers from across the country and beyond. By entering the contest, filmmakers will have a chance to showcase their work and make a statement on global public health topics such as pollution, nutrition, refugee health, climate change, clean water, infectious disease, and preparing for natural disasters.

"Public health issues are on the front pages of newspapers every day," said John R. Finnegan, Jr., Ph.D., dean of the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. "We believe these issues lend themselves to a medium like film and we look forward to seeing what filmmakers can do with some of the most important and weighty themes of the day."

Entrants will get to test their talent as they describe a public health problem, identify a potential solution and present, via film media, a clear call to action – in 30 seconds or less.

Select entries will be screened at the National Public Health Week Film Festival, in Minneapolis. The deadline for entries is March 12, 2007.

Films will be judged in two categories by total program time (without credits):

  • Short form (10 seconds or less)
  • Long form (11 to 30 seconds)

To submit entries, send full source digital video on DVCAM, MiniDV, or DVD-R to:
