MHA Program Ranked No. 2 by U.S. News(April 3, 2007) – The Master of Healthcare Administration Program (MHA) at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health ranked second in this year's U.S. News and World Report ranking of healthcare management programs. The University's MHA program jumped from a fifth place ranking to second place on the 2008 list. The rankings are based upon the results of peer assessment surveys sent to leaders in academic healthcare management programs across the country. "This ranking is a testament to the high standards set by the program's faculty, staff, students, and alumni," said Sandra Potthoff, Ph. D., director of the Master of Healthcare Administration Program at the University of Minnesota. "We are dedicated to educating the next generation of administrators and enabling them to be leaders in the field and contribute to the healthcare system." As part of the Division of Health Policy and Management at the School of Public Health, students are taught by internationally recognized faculty members with expertise in healthcare delivery, access, management, health economics and finance, policy, and organizational structure. "The program's focus on providing students with a strong theoretical base for practice, the skills needed to be a leader in today's healthcare system, and real experience working in the community has established it as one of the top programs in the country," said John R. Finnegan, Jr., Ph.D., dean of the School of Public Health. Students can earn an MHA degree through a 2-year full-time program, a working professional part-time program offered on both the Twin Cities and Rochester campuses, and a 3-year ISP executive distance learning program. In addition, the University offers a joint degree program in which students can earn an MHA degree and a Master of Business Administration through a partnership with the Carlson School of Management.
