Mentor Connections Announcements

SPH Mentor Connection

Dear SPH Mentors and Students,

All good things must come to an end and so too comes the official end of the 2006-2007 mentor program.

Mentors: On behalf of the School and its students, we thank you for generously donating your time and talents this past year. The mentor program would not be such a success without so many dedicated mentors!

Students: Thank you for choosing to connect with a public health professional on both a personal and professional level. We hope that your mentor relationship enhanced your student experience this year.

This e-mail—the last official correspondence of the program this year—contains both announcements and a call for your feedback. We hope that you will fill out our online survey to help make the program even stronger for next year.

Announcements

We are seeking a mentor/student pair to talk about their rewarding experience at the Mentor Kick-off event for next year’s SPH Mentor Program participants. The kick-off event will take place on Friday, November 2nd at 8:00 a.m. in the McNamara Alumni Center. This is a great opportunity to talk about the benefits of your mentor partnership and get others excited to begin theirs. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Michelle Lian-Anderson at liana001@umn.edu.

Students: Are you looking for a paid and flexible student job for next year? The mentor program is hiring a new student coordinator for next year’s program. The student coordinator will help to maintain a successful mentor program, while infusing it with new ideas. If you are interested in this position, please contact Michelle Lian-Anderson at liana001@umn.edu.

Mentors: Will you please take a minute to tell us whether or not you can participate in the 2007-2008 mentor program by clicking on the following link…

Seeking your feedback

All mentors and students are encouraged to fill out a quick survey about your experience in the program this year. Your responses help make the program stronger for participants in the years to come. Please take 10-15 minutes to complete the survey below and at the end you'll have the option of entering a drawing for a $100 Target gift certificate. We look forward to reading your comments!

Lastly, we are sad to report the death of Melissa Speich, who was a first year nutrition student and participant of the mentor program. We extend our sympathies to her family, friends and classmates. Please e-mail us if would like information about memorial services for Melissa.

Best Regards,
