Student News

The SPH Student Senate is supporting the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life and needs student support. Students who want to participate in the April 18-19 event and who pay the $10 registration fee before Friday, March 14, will get a T-shirt. Questions? contact Emily Wang at wang0675@umn.edu.

Geeta Naidu, a second year PHAP student, was selected for the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) Executive Pathways Internship. She will be placed in the Health Care Administration program, which is responsible for the state's health care assistance programs, including program eligibility, purchasing policies, and negotiations between state health care programs and health plans.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is sponsoring its First CDC Career Day on Monday, March 17. Interested students are invited to attend and learn more about the job opportunities currently available within the agency. Questions? Contact the CDC at hrcs@cdc.gov or 1-888-CDC-HIRE.

School News

The Career Resource Center is hosting a field experience information session from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, in Mayo A-301. Listen to students talk about their field experiences at the Minnesota Department of Health, American Cancer Society, and in Japan and India. The information session will also feature a demonstration of the newly developed Field Experience Web site. Food will be provided so please register by writing to sphfield@umn.edu before Wednesday.

Improve your educational experience by participating in a focus group. The purpose of the focus groups is to provide feedback about student experiences so the SPH can revise its end-of-year questionnaire to obtain the most useful information possible. All students are invited to participate. Focus groups will meet:

• Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m.
• Friday, Feb. 29, from 2 to 3:15 p.m.
• Tuesday, March 4, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
• Friday, March 7, from 2 to 3:15 p.m.

Harriet Washington will discuss medical experimentation and African Americans on Thursday, Feb. 28 during the class, "From Eugenics to Deadly Medicine and Back." Make plans to attend the pre-release film screening of "Unnatural Causes: Is inequity making us sick?" Two segments of the seven-part documentary will be shown from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Parkway Theater, 4814 Chicago Ave., in Minneapolis.
