Career Advancement Program for Clinical Research Scholars (CAPS)

The Career Advancement Program for Clinical Research Scholars (CAPS) is a structured, didactic program with a mentored, multidisciplinary clinical research emphasis aimed at developing the next generation of clinical investigators.  Trainees are outstanding scholars from the major human clinical professions of dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and public health.  This innovative program focuses on improving health through clinical research and brings together strengths in a systematic, focused career development training program.  The program is designed to produce committed clinical investigators skilled in the design, implementation, and evaluation of clinical research.

The Master of Science degree in Clinical Research is a program requirement. In addition, all scholars enter a mentored research experience with senior faculty working in multidisciplinary mentoring teams. Performance in didactic settings and research projects is systematically evaluated.

CAPS provides salary (75% of their academic salary; 50% effort and salary for surgical scholars) and faculty benefits associated with rank and position plus a tuition scholarship for up to fourteen (14) graduate credits per semester at the regular rate during the academic year.

Graduate Assistant Positions
Research and teaching assistantship positions become available throughout the year in the School of Public Health, and other departments throughout the University of Minnesota.  Many research assistant positions require knowledge of statistical computing, such as SAS or SPSS programs, and we highly recommend students learn one or both of these programs. Once you are admitted to a degree program at the University of Minnesota you are eligible to apply for any graduate assistant position in any department at the University of Minnesota.
