Student Experience, School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota

Student Experience

Epidemiology doctoral students are involved with faculty and Division matters through graduate assistantships, seminars and committee service.  Student representatives participate in the monthly Division Training Committee meeting along with faculty.

Doctoral students have their own monthly group meeting, and they invite faculty visitors to attend. These luncheon meetings are student-led, and at least once per semester, the Director of Graduate Studies is invited to listen to student concerns and share updates.  Student input and involvement is deeply valued within the Division.

Students are encouraged to be involved in the Center for Health Interprofessional Programs (CHIP) student center to build alliances between different members of the Academic Health Center programs beyond Epidemiology and the School of Public Health. The CHIP organization provides a student lounge in the Academic Health Center as well as opportunities for socializing and community service.

Students are also encouraged to become involved in student government through the School of Public Health Student Senate.  The SPH Student Senate is an active group that coordinates many social and community events through the year including Relay for Life teams, food drives, and many other community activities.
