Student Experience, School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota

Student Experience

Student with University flag. MS-HSRP&A students are active in the health services research community through internship placements at local public and private HSR organizations. The internship gives students the opportunity for mentorship, and to apply the knowledge and skills attained in the classroom in hands-on work experience.

The Division of HPM sponsors two seminar series that showcase local and national leaders in health services research, administration, and policy. The seminars provide opportunities for students to learn about cutting edge topics from real world practitioners.

Students are involved with faculty and Division matters. Student representatives attend monthly faculty meetings, and at least once every semester students are invited to meet with the major chairs to discuss their views of the program. Many student suggestions have become part of an action plan for the continuous quality improvement of the program.

Students in the MS-HSRP&A program share with other University of Minnesota students many opportunities for personal and professional growth both inside and outside of the School of Public Health.

The Center for Health Interprofessional Programs (CHIP) student center builds alliances between different members of the health profession.  The organization provides a student lounge in the Academic Health Center as well as opportunities for socializing and service.

Students may also become involved in student government through the School of Public Health Student Senate.  Four Twin Cities students are elected by the official student legislative bodies as student representatives to the Board of Regents.

Students enhance their education through participation in the many athletic and cultural activities at the University.  Cheer for the Golden Gophers.  Hear a symphony at the Ted Mann Concert Hall.  Watch a play at the Rarig Center.  These are only a few of the opportunities available to students on the Twin Cities campus.
