Admissions, School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota

Admissions

Admission to the MHA program is highly selective. While academic ability is a principal criterion, we also give major consideration to a person's experience and aptitude, especially when a student has been away from the academic environment for several years.

Admission is based on an applicant's potential management capability as demonstrated through prior academic performance, test scores, and references; and an applicant's interest, leadership potential and commitment to healthcare management as demonstrated through previous work experience and an interview.

Requirements for Admission

  • have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (may consider Working Professionals with a lower GPA depending on years of work experience)
  • take the GRE, GMAT, MCAT or LSAT; GRE minimum of 1000, GMAT minimum of 500;
  • write a letter of intent;
  • include a resume;
  • submit transcripts;
  • provide three letters of recommendation;
  • participate in an on-site interview.

Application Deadlines

Full-time students are accepted to begin coursework in the Fall. Applications are reviewed beginning in December, and decisions reached as applications are received. The part-time program admits working professionals every semester.

The application deadline for the Full-Time MHA Program is March 15, 2008. Application deadlines for the Part-Time Working Professionals MHA Program are July 1 for fall entry, November 1 for spring entry, and April 1 for summer entry.
