For Janiece Gray, the best part of the Minnesota MHA program was at the end. She believes the selection of job and fellowship opportunities available to Minnesota graduates "catapults you into your career." Because of the program’s reputation and long-standing relationships with organizations, "people know what the graduates are capable of. There are high expectations and high hopes," Gray noted.

Her fellowship with Allina Health Systems gave her a wide variety of experiences and interim management roles. Within a year and a half she was a Director, in charge of opening a new Ambulatory Care Center that is one of the flagships for the organization. The two-story 48,000 sf center is designed to add up to 6 more stories as the market changes in the fast-growing metropolitan area in which it is located. The Center has 8 clinics and services in an integrated patient care environment.

Gray worked with a broad range of people to develop the Center: interdisciplinary healthcare teams, joint ventures, outside vendors, physicians, nursing staff, administrators, construction workers, and the neighboring community. "It was exciting to be part of the creative process of design and development through construction and implementation of programs", said Gray. In addition to being a springboard for her career, opening the Center on time and on budget earned her the American College of Healthcare Executive’s 2004 Regent’s Early Career Award.
