Admissions
The major admits applicants with career goals in public health and applied nutrition, nutrition education, community intervention, and nutritional epidemiology. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Relevant experience in a public health setting is preferred.
The major offers two program options of 16 and 24 months leading to the M.P.H.
If candidates:
- Have a dietetics degree and are R.D.s or R.D.-eligible, they may apply for the 16-month program. A 16-month nutritional epidemiology emphasis is available.
- Do not have a nutrition degree but will have completed specific science prerequisites before starting the MPH, they may apply for the 24-month program. A 24-month nutritional epidemiology emphasis is available. Science prerequisites include: one general biology course with a lab; two general chemistry courses with a lab; one organic chemistry course, and one biochemistry course.
- Have a nutrition degree but do not desire R.D. credential, eligible for the 16-month program. A 16-month nutritional epidemiology emphasis is available.
Preferred performance levels are:
- GPA of 3.0
- Composite GRE score of 1000, with a 3.5 on the AWA (Analytic Writing Assessment)
- TOEFL score of 600/250/100 (international applicants)
