Online Courses

Method of delivery of on-line courses

WebCT is the course management software used by the University of Minnesota that enables instructors to create and manage Web-based learning materials and activities. Students use WebCT to access these materials and participate in learning activities via the Web.

What does an online course look like?

Once you register for classes, you will be given access to a an orientation specific to School of Public Health online courses. A general WebCT tutorial is also available.  Neither of these orientations are mandatory but may prove helpful to those with little or no experience with online courses.

Access your on-line course

The myU Portal (www.myu.umn.edu) is the most common route students use to access their online courses or online course components via WebCT.

However, they may also be accessed via this WebCT Vista website.

Trouble with access

  • Although a course may appear, access to the course may not be granted until the day before the term begins.  Prior to that time, students will receive an error message stating, "access denied" after clicking on the course link.
  • Technical support for your online School of Public Health courses is available by contacting Jim or Bernadette, the distance education coordinators, at decsph@umn.edu.
