Research & Centers, School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota

Research & Centers

Our faculty, staff, and students are engaged in a broad array of research projects all over the world examining important and vexing public health issues that affect entire populations.   They work jointly with the numerous nationally and internationally recognized centers hosted by the School of Public Health, and independently to shed light on some of the biggest public health problems on the planet.  Their work is vital; our research program is robust:

  • In the 2006-2007 fiscal year, we brought in $92 million.
  • Most of our research funding came from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In fact, we receive more NIH funding than any other school of public health located at a public university.

All of this is a testament to the caliber of our faculty and their research areas, as well as our ability to collaborate with colleagues in the University's Medical School, College of Veterinary Medicine, and others on multidisciplinary research projects.

Minnesota Taconite Workers Lung Health Partnership

Our school is leading the University of Minnesota's research into taconite worker health issues. The role of the University of Minnesota is that of independent scientific researcher. We commit to taking the most comprehensive scientific approach to date to understand the unique health issues involving taconite workers. We also understand the importance of keeping this process open and transparent.
