Admission to the MPH in Biostatistics
Applying to our school
You may apply online via SOPHAS to our MPH, MHA, MS, PhD and Certificate in Core Concepts programs. SOPHAS is the centralized Schools of Public Health Application Service.
Remember to designate the University of Minnesota School of Public Health as one of your school choices along with your desired program.
We'll let you know by e-mail once we receive your application from SOPHAS.
Applicants should submit materials by Dec. 1, for admission in September of the following year, to allow sufficient time for processing. All applications that arrive before Dec. 1 compete for the first-round offers of admission and financial aid. Students are admitted to start in the fall semester only.
Admissions Review Process
The admissions committee reviews applicants according to their personal statements, background and experience, record of academic achievement, demonstrated academic potential, letters of recommendation, compatibility of interests with program faculty, and other factors.
Test scores and GPAs provide competitive points of reference for admission but are not alone decisive in the admissions review.
Prerequisites
Prospective applicants should have taken at least
- 3 semesters of calculus (including multivariable calculus)
- 1 semester of linear algebra
Experience with a programming language (eg. Java, C, Python) is helpful, but not required.
