Epidemiology

Degree Offered: MPH

About

Epidemiology describes trends in health and disease for populations. It can be applied in the biological, environmental, behavioral, and social sciences.

The current national job market for epidemiology graduates is extremely strong and is expected to remain very marketable in the future. The epidemiology MPH is also an appropriate foundation for several PhD degrees.

Epidemiology MPH Program

We train epidemiologists to analyze public health trends, design and implement studies, and interpret the results for policy and program development. They also learn to investigate disease origins, and prevention and intervention strategies at the individual and societal levels.

You may pursue a MPH. on a full-time or part-time basis, but note that the majority of the courses are offered only during the day.

Welcome!

PamIn addition to my role as Program Director for the Epidemiology MPH major, I am a Professor focusing on cardiovascular disease epidemiology and prevention.  I am also the Principal Investigator of the CARDIA Study, a cohort study currently in its 25th year.

Along with the graduate studies staff and faculty, I am involved with admissions, curriculum, and advising for the program.  I also teach Epidemiologic Methods III, an applied analytic methods course required for majors, and its associated SAS programming lab.

In the School of Public Health, I serve as Director of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Interdisciplinary Concentration that is available as an elective option to students in Epidemiology as well as the other MPH majors in the School.
