Public Health Practice Major

This program is designed for working professionals who wish to expand their knowledge in public health and apply the knowledge to their current practice.
Overall, we believe that this program will prepare you for major leadership positions that will fully utilize your talents, skills and pubic health values.
Who should apply to this program?
If you have an advanced academic degree or PubHCert – CC and would like to pursue a Master of Public Health degree focusing on a specialty area that meets your professional interests, this program is for you. Currently the disciplines of medicine, veterinary science, pharmacy, and psychology are represented in the 80 member class. If you have a PhD, MD, DDS, MS, MBA, another professional degree, or the Public Health Certificate in Core Concepts, your application is welcome.
What is unique about the Executive Program in Public Health Practice?
It is tailored to your academic priorities.
EPHP is a flexible curriculum that students may tailor to their career and practice.
Established focus areas are:
- Cultural competency
- Food protection
- General Public Health Practice
- Preparedness, response, and recovery
- Public health leadership
- Risk assessment
Each area has suggested coursework and study options. Students with other interests may propose a focus area not listed.
It is a flexible program.
The program builds on your work and educational experience. It is possible to complete all work for your Master of Public Health degree in 16 months, with 42 graduate credits. On an average, students complete the program in three years.

The Public Health Institute is a unique opportunity for professionals from multiple disciplines to connect and immerse themselves in emerging public health issues. The colleagues and friends you meet at the Public Health Institute will likely be for life.
How often do I need to be on campus?
Approximately 14 credits of the program (out of a total of 42) can be taken online, including course work in biostatistics, environmental health, epidemiology, behavioral science, and management.
The program is broken down into a basic curriculum (23.5 credits) and a focus curriculum (18.5 credits). The majority of the basic curriculum can be taken online/distance during the regular academic semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer). The field experience and master’s project which are part of the basic curriculum can also be done from your home location.
Plus, we offer a wide variety of elective courses during a concentrated three-week Public Health Institute offered every spring. Attendance at two Public Health Institutes and participation in the online classes allows students to continue their current practice while earning the credits necessary for an MPH degree.
