Research Day 2010

Monday, April 5, 2010
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Coffman Memorial Union; Mississippi Room

SPH Student Research Day is a time to:

  • honor and celebrate the research endeavors of public health students.
  • show others the kind of research activities possible in public health by students.
  • encourage students to consider further research in their public health careers.
  • give all SPH students the experience of developing and presenting a poster.

Everyone is welcome to attend the 3rd annual SPH Student Research Day and support the presenters. Posters will be on display from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 5, and the participating students will be present to answer questions from 12 to 1 p.m.

If you have questions about attending the event, please email mart1047@umn.edu.

I’m a SPH student. Why should I participate in Research Day?

  1. You will have a chance to win prizes such as $500 that would go towards expenses of attending a national scientific meeting of the recipient’s choice, or a $50 University of Minnesota Bookstore gift card. For a list of the prizes, please click here.
  2. Your participation in Research Day can be included on your resume.
  3. You will learn how to design, implement, and present the results of a research study – many students have not had the opportunity to actually carry a study through to completion.
  4. You will learn what the process is to create a poster about your research study, lay it out and write the results.
  5. You will have the opportunity to work with a faculty member to design and carry out a research study.
  6. You will learn how to give an oral presentation about your research study to attendees at Research Day.
  7. You will learn about what to expect and how to conduct oneself in a poster session, in anticipation of attending a national scientific meeting and presenting a poster there.
