SPH alumni and students are invited to participate in Gophers Gathering, connecting SPH alumni to students through a shared meal in the Twin Cities. Alumni have the opportunity to share their SPH experience with current students by hosting a meal, brunch or dinner, in their home or at a restaurant locally.
Students have the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation and establish long-lasting connections with SPH alumni that you might not otherwise meet. This is a great opportunity to practice networking and elevator speeches. Dinners are offered throughout the month of February.
Before signing up, please make sure you are available. Sign up to attend brunch or dinner with a group of students with an SPH alumni. There will be at least three other students in attendance. After you sign up, the SPH Alumni Society and SPH Student Senate will send you a confirmation email. You will receive an invitation with more details approximately a week in advance of the dinner. You must respond to the email to confirm you are still able to attend. Spots fill quickly, so sign up today.
You must let us know if you can no longer attend ASAP. Hosts are planning on your attendance. No-shows are tracked by event coordinators and reflect poorly on the School of Public Health and you as a student. No-shows will not be allowed to participate in future dinners. Cancellations must be submitted to Sara Pennebecker at email@example.com, your student captain and your alumni host(s) at least 24 hours before your meal.
You are encouraged to treat the meal like an informational interview as an opportunity to learn more about a particular career or field. This is also a great opportunity to practice networking and elevator speeches. Come prepared with some questions for your host. Questions might cover topic such as their experience at SPH, the work they do now or tips for navigating public health workforce.
The host is paying for your meal, not SPH. Sending a thank you card is a courtesy and an important part of successful networking. Please send the card to your host to specially acknowledge and thank them for dinner.

Before registering, decide if you would like to host as an individual or co-host with another alumnus, how many students you are willing to host and begin to think about a menu. Hosts are expected to cover the cost of the meal.

SPH will send follow up information including a list of your guests. SPH will also handle details such as communicating with students and providing instructions to your home or restaurant of your choice.
