Recognizing the persistence of systemic institutional and cultural factors working against diversity and equity in the health services and policy research profession (HSR), the AcademyHealth Board of Directors founded the Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Minority Engagement in 2013. An analysis of the 2015-2016 HSR workforce found an increase of doctoral and master’s degrees conferred in HSR. However, racial and ethnic minorities (Black, Latinx, American Indian, and Pacific Islander researchers) remain underrepresented, further underscoring the need for greater efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the field. In 2020, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funded the HSR Workplace Culture Study. This mixed-method study examined HSR professional experiences in diversity, equity, and inclusion across various aspects since 2015. This presentation will provide key preliminary findings from the survey portion of the study.
