Research Development Series
Diversity Supplement Panel
Hosted by the School of Public Health and moderated by Dr. Jude P. Mikal
Did you know that the NIH has supplemental funds available to support students and scholars making a significant contribution to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research – and those supplements can be applied to a range of grant types? As an expression of commitment to supporting a diversity of scholars, the School of Public Health is hosting a Diversity Supplement Panel to demystify the diversity supplement applicant process. The event is designed for NIH-funded researchers with an interest in promoting DEI in research and mentorship – as well as students and scholars from minoritized groups ready to undertake mentored research projects. Our panel includes mentors, applicants and administrators with experience across a range of NIH supplements, who will offer key insights into the diversity supplement application process before answering audience questions. Attendees are not required to prepare anything for the discussion – but would be encouraged to read through the diversity supplement funding opportunity announcement and / or visit the EpiCH diversity supplement toolkit to find out more about diversity supplements. The School of Public Health Strategic Plan for Antiracism encourages support for proposals to support BIPOC graduate/professional students and postdocs. We also encourage attendees to come equipped with questions – as we will devote around 20 minutes to questions from the audience.
