Sara Pennebecker | March 14, 2019

The MHA Alumni Association is pleased to share that John King (MHA ’63) was inducted into the Health Care Hall of Fame on March 3, 2019 in Chicago. This award honors individuals who have made lifelong contributions to healthcare, cultivating operational success and influencing change to advance the industry.

John has held distinguished leadership roles in hospitals and health systems, including Fairview Community Hospitals in Minneapolis, Evangelical Health Systems in Oak Brook, Illinois, and Legacy Health System in Portland, Oregon and held leadership roles in the American Hospital Association. During his nearly four-decade career, John focused on value long before it was the buzzword it is today. He was passionate about emphasizing quality improvement while achieving lower costs.

Don Wegmiller (MHA ’62) shared, “John King represents the best our MHA Program has brought to the field of healthcare administration; commitment, leadership, new ideas, and strong community involvement. Being recognized as an inductee into the Healthcare Hall of Fame continues John’s achievements and the role the Minnesota Program plays in healthcare.”

King will join the Hall of Fame alongside several past Minnesota MHA inductees, including:

  • James A. Hamilton
  • Walter McNerney (MHA ’50)
  • Wade Mountz (MHA ’51)
  • Stanley Nelson (MHA ’50)
  • Scott Parker (MHA ’62)
  • Don Wegmiller (MHA ’62)

It’s wonderful to see outstanding MHA alumni recognized for their contributions to the health care industry. We’re pleased to see John being recognized for his extraordinary work and are proud to consider him one of our own.

Congratulations to John!
