Future Work

In Years 3–5, 2027 – 2029, UMCPHPR will build on early findings to design, implement, and refine strategies that strengthen coordination between K–12 schools, public health agencies, and regional partners. Initial efforts will focus on developing and piloting a structured, cross-agency approach to communication and coordination during communicable disease events. This work will support school and public health partners in clarifying roles, strengthening joint planning processes, and improving how information is shared across agencies. In parallel, the Center will implement a regional network mapping approach to better understand how organizations collaborate during public health responses, identify opportunities to strengthen coordination, and support more effective information flow across jurisdictions.

Building on these system-level efforts, UMCPHPR will also advance workforce development through a regional leadership initiative focused on strengthening decision-making, communication, and coordination during emergencies. This work will bring together public health, Tribal, and partner organization leaders to apply shared leadership practices in realistic scenarios and integrate these approaches into existing plans and systems. Across all activities, UMCPHPR will continue to engage regional and Tribal partners to ensure approaches are practical, adaptable, and responsive to the diverse needs of communities across Region 5.
