Graduate Research Assistant

President’s Initiative to Prevent Sexual Misconduct (PIPSM)

The President’s Initiative to Prevent Sexual Misconduct (PIPSM) exists to enhance and expand the institution’s efforts to prevent sexual misconduct and sexual violence on its system campuses. PIPSM adopts a public health approach and is a University engaged endeavor that relies on the entire community for active involvement. Key to the work is to develop, implement and measure strategies and programs to influence change in social and cultural norms.

Interview will begin January 6th 2020

About the position:

Research assistant tasks include working with the Project Manager and various committee Co-
Chairs to provide direct support in the development, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of PIPSM
assessment research and evaluation activities and projects.

Two key projects include:
1) Conduct literature reviews, develop interview guides, recruitment plans and materials to support
the development of qualitative needs assessments for specific student populations; Assist with the
IRB submission of the qualitative assessment
2) Clean and de-identify qualitative interview transcriptions, analyze and prepare manuscripts

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled graduate student
  • Experience or course work in conducting/analyzing qualitative interviews
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, inter personally, and professionally in a diverse, cross-disciplinary team
  • High orientation to detail and ability to multitask across multiple projects
  • Ability to enter and manage date from various sources
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Time management — manage ongoing project and competing deadlines
  • Analytical Thinking — should be able to assess data sets and derive conclusions base don their findings
  • Communication skills — effectively written and verbal communication is vital and collaborating with other researchers and preparing reports

Preferred:

  • Experience and/or knowledge in college, health, sexual violence prevention, sexual health, an/or young adult populations

Student Internship — Communications/Advocacy Intern

Human Impact Partners, Oakland, Califronia

Human Impact Partners is seeking a summer interns to support advocacy projects projects with our nonprofit organization in Oakland, California.

About the position:

The Communications/Advocacy intern will report to HIP’s Communications Director, working with them and with other HIP staff running advocacy projects. 

  • Conducting online research to scan public discourse in social media platforms related to active research and advocacy campaigns HIP is working on.
  • Writing social media content for Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn platforms to participate in public discourse on active research and advocacy campaigns.
  • Writing copy and building emails in Mailchimp for email campaigns.
  • Coordinating website content maintenance across HIP’s 3 main websites (Human Impact Partners, Health Equity Guide, and Public Health Awakened)
  • Coordinating editorial schedule for HIP’s Medium blog, including coordinating editorial review, searching for header images, and building blog posts in Medium

Qualifications

  • Working towards a 4-year degree in sociology, communication science, or public health.
  • Strong writing, online research, and organizational skills.
  • A deep interest in digital or media literacy, digital organizing, narrative change, and/or public interest communications
  • Understanding of social justice, health equity, and social determinants of health
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to collaboration and a sense of humor

Student Internship — Graduate Research Intern

Human Impact Partners is seeking 2 summer research interns to support research projects with our nonprofit organization in Oakland, California.

Research Intern responsibilities include:

  • Conduct literature reviews and collect data
  • Analyze data using quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Write up research findings into materials for public health professionals to advocate around social determinants of health, including criminal justice, economic security, immigration, and housing.
  • Opportunities to develop content for HIP’s communications.

Qualifications

  • Master’s student in public health or other field with connection to social policy, such as public policy, city planning, or social welfare
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills
  • Understanding social justice, health equity, social determinants of health

Faculty Position – Population Health and Health Equity Research

The School of Public Health, University of Minnesota, invites applications for a position in Population Health and Health Equity Research at the tenure-track Assistant/Associate or Full Professor levels. Scientific leadership opportunities exist for mid- to senior-level researchers with the appropriate level of demonstrated experience. Specifically, qualified persons may also serve in a leadership role (e.g., an Associate Director) of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Interdisciplinary Research Leaders (IRL) Program, a national program providing support and training to a network of researchers and community leaders conducting action-oriented research to advance a Culture of Health in the United States. As a member of the IRL leadership team, the incumbent will have the opportunity to provide strategic direction to a new national program and provide mentoring and support to population health researchers across the U.S. The national program office for the IRL program is based at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, which includes the Divisions of Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology and Community Health, and Health Policy and Management. The tenure home for the candidate will be in the division that most closely aligns with their academic interests and training.

We are seeking Assistant, Associate, or Full Professors for tenure track, Regular Title Series, full time (12 month) positions in the newly established Center for Health Equity Transformation in the College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky. We seek health equity researchers with a dynamic, productive research agenda that aims to eliminate inequities in cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, substance abuse, or other health conditions. The Center for Health Equity Transformation is a transdisciplinary research Center focused on developing the most innovative and impactful research and training portfolio. This position is part of a university-college-wide interdisciplinary cluster hire in health equity.
