Research

One part of the Health Equity Work Group’s (HEWG) mission is giving greater visibility to health inequalities research at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health and nationally. As such, HEWG works with faculty to provide research opportunities and facilitate collaborations.

The three main research opportunities HEWG facilitates are:

  • Working with Faculty Affiliates to broaden health equity research at the University of Minnesota
  • Collaborating with the Program in Health Disparities Research to host an annual networking meeting
  • Advertising health equity research projects that faculty members are working on

See the tabs under Research to learn more about Faculty Affiliates, networking activities, and projects.

Health Equity Microgrants

Each year, the HEWG funds up to $3,000 microgrants to support School of
Public Health junior faculty, postdocs, advanced doctoral students, and
Master’s students conducting health equity related research.

The funding for the microgrants are from the generous support of the SPH Dean’s Office

Health Equity Pilot Grants

In 2022, HEWG launched the first health equity pilot grant program. The pilot grants have been used to support health equity related research that has the potential to lead to a larger study. This grant is designed to encourage community-engaged and action-oriented research that leads to programs, policies or practice change.

The funding for the pilot grants are from the SPH Dean’s Office.
