Public Health Minor
From biology and the environment to politics, tech, and human behavior, public health tackles the big issues shaping our world. When you minor in public health, you become a changemaker, combining science and advocacy to build a healthier, more equitable world.
This minor is a collaboration between the College of Liberal Arts and the School of Public Health, and it’s open to all UMN undergrads—except public health majors. You’ll explore the tools and ideas used to tackle real-world health challenges in communities everywhere.
Minoring in public health helps you understand how systems—from your neighborhood to the global stage—shape health outcomes. It’s great prep for grad school, future careers, or wherever life takes you. Outside the classroom, you can study abroad, volunteer, or join the Undergrad Public Health Association, and more.
The program, which requires a minimum of 14 credits, is composed of courses delivered in person and online. Refer to the course requirements on the Requirements tab of the public health minor catalog page, and click on the courses for descriptions. You can also pull a ‘What-if’ APAS Report to see what the requirements of the program are, and how any of the coursework you have already completed fits into the minor requirements.
Minor declarations will continue to be processed by CLA through the end of June 2025. You can find declaration instructions on their site. Please send declaration questions to pubhadv@umn.edu.
Starting July 1, 2025, you can declare the Public Health minor by completing this Undergraduate Public Health Minor Declaration form.
