Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of older adults? Join us for an enlightening Careers in Aging Panel Event hosted by the Aging Studies Interdisciplinary Group (ASIG). Our panel features distinguished professionals in gerontology, social work, and other fields related to aging.

Gain valuable insights into various career paths and learn about the rewarding opportunities available in the field of aging. Our panelists will share their personal experiences, offer career advice, and answer your questions about working in aging-related professions.

Whether you’re a student exploring career options or a professional looking to transition into the field of aging, this event is for you. Network with like-minded individuals, connect with professionals in the field and discover the impact you can make in aging studies.

This event is organized by the Aging Studies Interdisciplinary Group (ASIG).

Community Health Worker, Trellis

Learn more about Xue Yang

Xue Yang earned his bachelor’s degree in Community Health Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and his Community Health Worker’s certificate from Minnesota West and Community Technical College. In his current role with Trellis, Xue connects Minnesotans to the Juniper’s evidence-based health promotion classes, and community resources to address social determinants of health needs. Xue’s passion lies in working with diverse communities to ensure everyone receives equitable health care and social services so they can thrive within their communities.

Dr. Benjamin Rosenstein

Geriatrician, UMN

Learn more about Dr. Benjamin Rosenstein

Benjamin Rosenstein, MD,MA is a faculty member of the University of Minnesota St. John’s Family Medicine Residency Program. He completed his Masters in Bioethics and Medical School training at UMN. He completed residency in family medicine at St. John.s. He further pursued a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He practices in outpatient, inpatient, and long-term care settings training medical students and residents in principles of geriatrics and primary care. His specific areas of interest include primary and specialty care geriatrics, osteoporosis, dementia diagnosis and management, delirium management and prevention, end of life care, and geriatrics education and advocacy. He has been awarded the HRSA Geriatrics Academic Career Award to enhance geriatrics education at UMN.

Associate Director, MN Elder Justice Center

Marit Anne Peterson is the associate director for the Minnesota Elder Justice Center. Prior to joining the Elder Justice Center in 2015, Marit practiced estate planning and elder law in the twin cities metro area. Marit is a past chair (2019-2020) and current member of the governing council of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Elder Law section. She has taught ethics at Augsburg University, has served on the Minnesota Olmstead Specialty Committee for the Prevention of Abuse and serves on the steering committee for Minnesota’s Working Interdisciplinary Network of Guardianship Stakeholders (WINGS).

Sharon Kimble, PT, DPT

Physical Therapist, UMN

Learn more about Sharon Kimble, PT, DPT

Sharon Kimble is a physical therapist with 37 years of experience working with older adults. She is a physical therapy graduate of Rosalind Franklin University, and has a clinical doctorate in physical therapy from St Catherine University. Her work with older adults has spanned a continuum which includes outpatient and skilled nursing settings, with the past 18 years spent in inpatient rehabilitation focusing on stroke recovery and rehabilitation from medically complex illness. She currently has a dual appointment that involves clinical work and teaching in the

University of Minnesota Program in Physical Therapy. She is a board certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist and holds a certification in exercise for the aging adult. In addition she is the Director of the University of Minnesota Physical Therapy Geriatric Residency. She is a practicing older adult athlete and enjoys running and cycling.
