Curriculum Information – Healthcare Management Certificate

Students are admitted to a cohort that progresses through the certificate track. Students must complete 12 credits to be awarded the certificate.

Students can choose between the three pathways described below. The curriculum for each pathway covers key healthcare leadership skills such as health systems overview, organizational finances, and managing in a healthcare environment. Students will dive deeper into topics based on the pathway they choose.

Certificate students in the standard pathway will join students in the MHA Executive cohort and will participate in an on-campus kickoff in January.

Healthcare Economics — PUBH 7555 (2 cr)

Health Financial Principles — PUBH 7538 (4 cr)

The Behavioral Health Pathway is designed for clinical and non-clinical professionals currently working in the field of behavioral health with two or more years of experience. Students enrolled in this path will participate in their own cohort that is specific to the behavioral health industry.

The Healthcare Management Certificate for behavioral health professionals is a collaboration of the UMN School of Public Health and Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies.

Similar to the Standard Pathway, students in the Customized Pathway will take courses with the Executive MHA Executive cohort, but can select 4 or more credits from across the curriculum to design their healthcare management certificate in a way that best meets their needs.
