Silent Epidemic: Confronting Gun Violence as a Public Health Crisis

This event will explore the critical intersection of gun violence and public health, delving into the pressing questions of why gun violence occurs, who is responsible, and who it impacts. Nate Carter will be joined by Connie Rhodes from Restoration Inc. and Lauren Feiersigner from Bridges International LLC. , who will share insights on the societal, economic, and health impacts of gun violence. Together, they will discuss how public health researchers, practitioners, and policy advocates can support victims and work towards effective prevention strategies. This discussion aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of gun violence as a public health issue and inspire actionable solutions for communities and policymakers alike.

Nate Carter is a seasoned leader with extensive experience in data analytics and community advocacy, having served as the Head of Data Analytics at Apple before transitioning to a non-profit organization focused on gun violence and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). As the Operations Equity Director at the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Nate leverages his passion for numbers, stats, and problem-solving to drive meaningful change. With a deep commitment to supporting people of color and strengthening the Black family, he brings a unique blend of analytical skills and heartfelt dedication to his work in addressing gun violence and promoting public health. Nate is also involved in various community initiatives, including 100 Black Men, the Fatherhood Project, and healing circles (inside the prison system and out), where he actively contributes to building safer, more inclusive communities.
