Graduates of the OEM residency have a wide variety of job availability. Residents have taken positions in government agencies (local, state, and federal), private practice, corporate settings as medical directors, and academics. The career opportunities are available locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. There are many more positions available than graduates to fill them.
Our physician OEM residency graduates have pursued careers in a wide variety of health care leadership positions throughout the country.
Recent graduates are now working as physician-executives or chief medical officers (CMO) with Essentia Health in Duluth, Sanford Health in the Dakotas, Mount Sinai health care system in New York, Kaiser Permanente in Northern California, Physicians Neck & Back Clinic, and in the Preventive Medicine Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic.
We have hired four of our recent OEM graduates in the regional expansion of our own department services. Areas of specific medical expertise include innovative work in health impact assessments (HIA) in Alaska, the mining industry, oil extraction, preventive services, corporate “Well-at-Work” programs, and clinical informatics. Our graduates and staff have served in positions of national leadership in the American College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM), and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM).
