John Finnegan Jr.

Day 16: Leadership and Commitment

We are grateful for Dean John Finnegan Jr. and celebrate his long standing commitment to the School of Public Health. Since he began his tenure as dean in 2005, the school’s faculty has increased more than 40 percent and the number of its graduate and professional students has more than doubled.

Dean Finnegan recently guided the school’s commitment of resources towards the SPH Strategic Plan for Antiracism and has taken effective action to move the school to becoming an actively antiracist institution. (One example of these actions is highlighted in a column he wrote, “Retiring the GRE.”)

Dean Finnegan believes that the school’s impact on the future of health in Minnesota and around the world is anchored both in its research and also in the education of next generation health professionals and scientists. With his retirement in sight, we hope you will express your gratitude to Dean Finnegan online using the hashtag #SPH40DaysGratitude. We will collect these notes and share them with him in the coming weeks.
