Sarah Brunsberg and Anna Bartels spent their summer field experience in Uganda. Watch the video below to learn more about about what they learned and what they contributed.

What is a Field Experience?

A field experience is an individualized, experiential learning opportunity where students apply their knowledge and skills in a non-classroom setting.

The goal of the field experience is to bring public health to life by specifically helping students strengthen their philosophy and understanding of the field. The field experience will provide opportunities for the student to:

  • Apply the knowledge, theory, concepts, skills and abilities acquired in the academic program.
  • Be personally involved in developing, planning, executing, and evaluating activities with and for groups and individuals.
  • Gain additional insight into programs, personnel management, governmental relations, public relations, legislative support, and knowledge of special investigations conducted by these organizations.
  • Increase professional self-awareness and accumulate experience to help enhance job competence following completion of the program.
  • Begin to identify as a public health professional.

Field Experience Module
